1950s Green Medallions Raffia Weave Fabric
This fabulous curtain or light upholstery weight fabric is extremely unusual. The fabric has a nubby weave like barkcloth and it's about the same weight. Cotton threads a woven over what appear to be raffia or plastic threads giving the fabric a stiff, firm handle similar to some sort of produce bag used for flour and grains. The reverse feels like raffia and the face feels bumpy. The fabric frays easily and from that I can see each thread has a highly twisted thread wrapped around it, which gives the bumpy texture. This is amazing fabric, the design is large scale and in dark green with mustard yellow and white. The base colour is natural cream with flecks of natural looking fibres. It's from the 1950s and for sale by the half a yard/metre.
